Notes on the selection of thigh prosthesis

What should we pay attention to when choosing thigh prosthesis?

(1) According to the condition of the stump, choose the right suspension method of the socket and the prosthesis. Don't blindly pursue the suction socket: the stump is too short; the vertebral stump with too little subcutaneous soft tissue; the stump with no shape; the stump with underdeveloped muscles, too much subcutaneous soft tissue and poor venous return are not suitable for the use of the suction thigh prosthesis. If you use it reluctantly, it will often fall off or cause the stump end Swelling of soft tissue at the end.

(2) According to the age and walking needs, the knee joint function and materials should be correctly selected. Do not blindly pursue the high price and import the prosthesis parts. For the old and the weak, the light prosthesis parts should be selected. Reliable stability is needed in walking. In order to prevent the prosthesis from suddenly hitting the soft leg and falling down, it is better to select the knee joint with hand lock or the knee joint with load bearing self-locking; for the growth and development of children, it is better to select the skeletal thigh prosthesis to extend the prosthesis every year; for the thigh prosthesis with the walking frequency following performance, it can automatically adjust the swing speed of the lower leg according to the walking speed, but this kind of knee joint has a large weight, They are all imported parts, which are expensive. They are mainly suitable for young people who need to walk quickly. By the way, remind the thigh amputee that you should have a clear understanding of what kind of knee joint you are installing, the functional characteristics you should have, and whether it has been used.

(3) According to the weight, choose the appropriate dummy foot or single axis ankle joint rear buffer spring (mostly made of rubber): for small weight, if the fixed ankle foot is used, the middle soft heel should be selected, if the single axis ankle is used, the middle soft rear buffer should be selected, otherwise it is easy to cause the foot tip swing when the foot suddenly breaks down and the heel touches the ground. (4) Pay attention to the impact of the surrounding environment on the use of thigh prosthesis: the current thigh prosthesis can help amputees walk on flat roads, up and down stairs, up and down slopes that are not too steep.
